The Hurun Research Institute has released the Hurun India Art List 2021. The list ranks the top 50 living Indian artists based on the sales of their works sold at public auctions in the year 2020. London-based sculptor Anish Kapoor topped the list with Rs 20.64 crore followed by New Delhi based painter Krishen Khanna, with sales of Rs 9 crore, at the second place and Rameshwar Broota, with sales of Rs 8.79 crore, in the third place.
Broota remains among the top three in the list for the second consecutive year. His artwork named ‘Silent Structures’ was the third most expensive artwork auctioned in the last year fetching a price of Rs 3.94 crore. The overall top Indian artists’ sales dipped by 25% in the pandemic-impacted year.
